The editor in chief of SurEconomics, Óscar Doval, was interviewed by the Colombian magazine Semana about Venezuela's economic outlook after the fall of the government of Nicolás Maduro.
Doval, a financial expert and former executive director of Banesco Bank in Venezuela, said the country is undergoing a significant political change, with an interim presidency oriented toward economic opening and closer alignment with the United States.
Among the central points of the interview:
- The energy sector as the main engine of recovery, after output fell from 3.5 million to 1.1 million barrels per day.
- Three key legal reforms: the new hydrocarbons law, the elimination of the fair prices law, and a law to streamline procedures.
- Opportunities in fintech, telecommunications and prepaid medicine.
- The "vacuum" left by multinationals that exited the country, and the opportunity for Latin American companies, especially Colombian ones, to enter before the large players return.
On legal security, he acknowledged that "confidence is not built overnight," although he stressed that today there is "greater openness and protection tools" such as international arbitration.
Doval closed with an optimistic message: "positive times are coming," and invited both Venezuelans and regional investors to take part in the country's economic reconstruction.
