Argentina makes official raises and special bonus for domestic workers through December 2026

The Argentine government has made official a new pay scale and a special bonus for the household domestic-work sector, to run through December 2026, according to the newspaper Clarín. Although the measure was formalized in September, the scheme provides retroactive raises from August for all remaining months of the year.
According to the information published by Clarín, the scheme includes a non-wage sum that will be progressively incorporated into the basic salary in three distinct stages. The mechanism seeks to cushion the impact of inflation on the incomes of one of the most precarious sectors of the labor market.
Domestic work represents a fundamental pillar in sustaining care and household chores, allowing other sectors of the workforce to go out to work. However, the long-standing high informality in this activity tends to leave many workers outside formal wage adjustments and basic social protection.
Setting official pay scales and bonuses by the state plays an ordering role in a market where the power asymmetry between employers and workers is high. These measures attempt to establish a mandatory minimum floor against the loss of purchasing power accumulated in recent periods.
Going forward, analysts and labor organizations will monitor the actual level of compliance with these scales in employing households, as well as the capacity of middle-income families, who are also facing cost-of-living pressures, to absorb these additional costs.
