Argentina and US seal $6 billion infrastructure and gas deal

Argentina and the United States will sign a bilateral infrastructure investment agreement worth $6 billion on Wednesday, earmarked for the Argentina LNG project, according to the newspaper Ámbito. The initiative links YPF with Italy's oil company Eni and XRG of the United Arab Emirates, and relies on the Large Investments Incentive Regime, which provides for a cumulative amount of $51 billion.

The financing mechanism is framed within a project finance scheme, a tool commonly used in global energy projects in which future cash flows back the repayment of debt. The central aim of the initiative is to turn natural gas resources from Vaca Muerta into liquefied natural gas exports to international markets, diversifying energy supply amid the crisis in the Middle East.

The announcement will be formalized at the Argentine Consulate in New York during a forum on supply chains, energy and infrastructure, with the backing of the US Export-Import Bank and private investors. The official tour also included a bilateral meeting between President Javier Milei and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
