Bill Gates warns AI will usher in a turbulent global transition

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates warned on August 27, 2026, that the development of artificial intelligence will bring on one of the most complex and turbulent periods in human history, according to The Daily Journal, which reported on an essay published on the entrepreneur's personal blog.

In his analysis, Gates argues that this technology is a double-edged sword, stating that artificial intelligence will be either the greatest equalizer ever invented or the worst source of injustice. He also criticized the lack of global preparation for this change and said there is no plan to ease the transition into the age of artificial intelligence.

The essay breaks down three main risks for today's societies. First, the destruction of jobs through the replacement of human thinking in sectors such as law, medicine, customer service, software and manufacturing within roughly a decade. Second, cyberthreats stemming from capabilities that can carry out attacks faster than traditional defenses, putting critical infrastructure at risk, including hospitals, banks, power grids and water systems. Third, the deterioration of human relationships due to the use of addictive chatbots that erode the lessons learned in interpersonal dealings.

This warning puts the debate over who controls the direction of technological tools on the table, along with how automation directly affects workers and the stability of essential public services. Given this scenario, the entrepreneur urges the creation of national and international bodies aimed at regulating the impact of technology.
