Binance resumes withdrawals after largest crypto hack

Binance began restoring customer withdrawals on Sunday, more than two days after suspending them following a cyberattack in which hackers stole more than $6 billion, according to Bloomberg Línea. The incident is the largest cyber theft recorded in the cryptocurrency sector.

The first phase of withdrawals covers 15 tokens, including ether and the stablecoins USDT and USDC, across 15 blockchain networks. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacking unit that also reportedly took part in an earlier heist targeting the Bybit platform.

During the first hours after the reopening, the platform recorded heavy capital outflows. According to data from El Nacional, the company processed withdrawals worth $4.649 billion against deposits of $1.010 billion, leaving net outflows of $3.640 billion.

Resuming operations puts to the test the company's pledge to compensate users. Binance said it had replaced approximately 95% of the stolen funds using its corporate treasury and emergency reserves, while the market is closely watching the impact on the platform's liquidity.
