Binance suffers massive hack involving $6.3 billion in digital assets
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, confirmed a cyberattack that left $6.3 billion in digital assets affected.

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, confirmed a cyberattack that left $6.3 billion in digital assets affected. Meanwhile, Valora Analitik said in its preliminary report that the figure stood at $5.3 billion and that the platform's native token, BNB, suffered a sharp slump in the market.
The incident is possibly the largest hack of a registered exchange to date in the history of crypto assets. According to investigations cited by BBC Mundo, the cyberattack was carried out by a North Korean hacking unit known as TraderTraitor, which used a laptop belonging to an engineer at the company itself to penetrate its security systems.
Given the magnitude of the security breach, the platform temporarily suspended transactions and operations on its network. El Nacional reported that the company said users' uncompromised funds remain protected, while confirming that it will assume the financial responsibility to cover losses on the affected assets resulting from the unlimited withdrawal.
Vulnerabilities of this kind at large centralized intermediaries expose the fragility of cryptocurrency custody systems to large-scale cyberattacks worldwide. Financial authorities and sector analysts are keeping a close watch on the impact this massive diversion of capital will have on the stability of digital asset markets in the short term.
