CECODAP registers 483 children killed by earthquakes in Venezuela

More than 100 days after the double earthquake that struck La Guaira state, the organization Centros Comunitarios de Aprendizaje (CECODAP) has recorded 483 children and adolescents dead and 144 missing, according to AlbertoNews.

The tally shows that 201 minors initially reported as missing during the first month were later confirmed dead. The organization says the lack of regular official information, broken down by age, poses a heightened protection risk for the children affected by the emergency.

On the economic front, the earthquakes are also hitting the region's productive activity hard. According to the newspaper El Nacional, Eduardo Quintana, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Fedecámaras in La Guaira, warned that 50% of commerce in the state is paralyzed, while total losses reach as much as 56%.

The emergency has also displaced 1,811 minors along with their families to other states in the country, bringing the total to 3,267 cases of children and adolescents affected across 20 states, with the greatest severity in La Guaira, Distrito Capital, Aragua, Carabobo, Falcón, Miranda and Yaracuy.
