Chris Pappas enters US Senate after Democratic victory
Democratic candidate Chris Pappas defeated his Republican rival in New Hampshire and will become the first openly gay man in the US Senate.

Democratic candidate Chris Pappas defeated his Republican rival in New Hampshire and will become the first openly gay man in the US Senate, according to Yahoo Noticias, Tuesday, November 4, 2026.
Pappas beat Republican John Sununu and kept the seat for the Democratic caucus, which was held until now by Senator Jeanne Shaheen. The incoming senator has served in the House of Representatives since 2019, while in 2012 Democrat Tammy Baldwin became the first LGBTQ+ person in the history of the US Senate.
The Democratic victory in the midterm elections will give the opposition control of both chambers of Congress during the last two years of Donald Trump's presidency, according to coverage by MercoPress. Following the results, the US dollar weakened against major currencies and gold rose more than 2%, topping $4,000 an ounce.
Meanwhile, the newspaper Contrapunto reported that West Texas Intermediate crude fell 2.98% this Thursday, to $93.23 a barrel, pressured both by uncertainty stemming from the war with Iran and by the new political landscape resulting from the Democratic victory in the US Congress.
