Citigroup beats fixed-income forecasts in third quarter

Citigroup Inc.'s bond, currency and commodities trading desks posted their best third quarter in at least a decade, pushing the bank's overall revenue toward one of its highest levels on record, according to Bloomberg Línea, which reported the results on October 13, 2026.

According to Bloomberg Línea, the bank's units generated $4.4 billion from those operations, beating the $4.3 billion analysts had forecast. The performance helped offset a less dynamic quarter in corporate mergers and acquisitions advisory.

The bank's fixed-income division is the second-largest business on Wall Street in its category. Against a backdrop shaped by interest rates and tight control of operating expenses, the bank reported earnings of $2.85 per share and total revenue of $23.8 billion, according to data released by Bloomberg Línea.

Chief Executive Jane Fraser is leading a strategic plan to restructure the company's international presence and scale back its retail operations outside the United States. Among recent moves, the preparation for the initial public offering of Banamex, its Mexican retail banking subsidiary, stands out.
