Colombia targets 6% growth driven by private investment

Colombia aims to achieve 6% economic growth through a strategy that prioritizes private investment in key sectors, according to the portal Banca y Negocios, which reported this on September 25, 2026. Speaking at side events to the UN General Assembly in New York, Colombian Vice President José Manuel Restrepo said the country seeks to position itself as a relevant player in critical minerals and to seize opportunities in lithium, nickel and copper.
To reach this goal, the administration of President Abelardo de la Espriella has presented a portfolio of 176 investment projects totaling $150 billion under the so-called Misión Crecer. According to the senior official cited by the outlet, the government seeks to mobilize foreign and domestic capital, reduce bureaucracy and bet on sectors with high potential for productivity and employment.
This expansion strategy contrasts with the more conservative projections of multilateral organizations for the region. According to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Colombia's real GDP growth stood at 0.8% in 2023 and 1.5% in 2024, while in 2025 it reached 2.6%. For the following years, the agency projects growth rates of 2.3% for 2026 and 2.5% for 2027, estimates that point to a pace considerably below the official target set by the Colombian government.
