Colombia issued $5.2 billion in bonds on international markets to strengthen its access to external sources of financing.

Colombia issued $5.2 billion in bonds on international markets to strengthen its access to external sources of financing, according to the portal Banca y Negocios. The transaction was structured in three tranches: $2.2 billion maturing in 2032 at a rate of 7.050%, $2.0 billion due in 2037 at a rate of 7.650%, and $1.0 billion due in 2056 at a rate of 8.150%.
According to the information published by the outlet, the offering drew demand of $16.0 billion, equivalent to 3.07 times the amount initially offered. The bond sale was handled by underwriters including BBVA Securities, Itaú BBA USA Securities and J.P. Morgan Securities.
The sovereign debt issue comes amid a complex fiscal context for the South American country. The government recently announced a cut of 13.8 trillion pesos, equivalent to about $4.325 billion, in state spending through austerity measures, lower debt-service costs and the elimination of contracts. At the same time, the executive issued by decree the General Budget of the Nation for 2027, amounting to 634.9 trillion pesos (about $199.161 billion), in the absence of a legislative agreement in Congress.
As a reference for the country's recent economic trajectory, World Bank data place central government debt at 71.2% of GDP in 2024, identical to the figure recorded in 2023 but above the 70.3% reported in 2022. On economic activity, GDP growth stood at 0.8% in 2023, rebounded to 1.5% in 2024 and reached 2.6% in 2025.
