Three months after the June 24 earthquakes in La Guaira state, the Venezuelan Red Cross has assisted more than 6,000 families (about 24,000 people) through the distribution of basic supplies, hygiene kits and items for purifying water, according to the portal AlbertoNews.
The humanitarian operation began with the installation of a field hospital in La Guaira and a health post at Padre Machado square in Maiquetía. The organization later added home medical visits, medical care days and a Punto Comunitario at the Catia La Mar beach area, the latter inaugurated with the support of Banesco.
The evolution of the humanitarian response reflects an ongoing process of assessment and more than 500 pieces of feedback received from affected communities. This information allows teams to identify priorities and define the services needed in each locality, maintaining a network of active centers in Macuto, Maiquetía, Ciudad Caribia and Las Salinas.
The work on the ground has involved more than 1,600 volunteers from 24 chapters across the country. The deployment seeks to ensure continued access to health care, psychosocial support and basic services for the affected populations.
