Delcy Rodríguez announces Plan Venezuela Alimenta at FAO forum

Delcy Rodríguez announced the Plan Venezuela Alimenta, an initiative to coordinate the country's production processes with the goal of moving toward the eradication of hunger, according to the portal AlbertoNews on October 12, 2026. During her address at the plenary session of the World Food Forum of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held in Rome, the acting president said that Venezuela has experience in social food programs.

The announcement comes amid a recovery in the flow of international funding. According to the newspaper El Nacional, international banks will disburse $12 billion in Venezuela after restoring ties with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This injection of liquidity seeks to support macroeconomic stabilization in an environment where IMF projections put annual inflation at 387.4% for 2026 and 94.4% for 2027.

To carry out the plan, Rodríguez said she will submit to Parliament a new law for the local economy aimed at strengthening the links between the communal and community economy, small enterprises and the agri-food industry. The proposal seeks to consolidate the national productive chain and to counter the effects of climate change and El Niño on agricultural practices.

The acting president also asked the international organization for financing and early-warning systems powered by artificial intelligence to mitigate the climate impacts on the agricultural sector. In her address, she also reiterated her call to avoid using food as an instrument of political pressure and demanded an end to any measure contrary to international law.
