Delcy Rodríguez received former National Assembly president Dinorah Figuera, who held the post in 2015, at the Miraflores Palace on Thursday, October 22. The meeting took place behind closed doors in the Simón Bolívar Hall of the government seat, with the participation of Jorge Rodríguez, the head of the chavismo delegation in the negotiations.
The meeting comes one day after the end of the third round of talks at the dialogue table. As a result of this round, the parties announced a review of several regulations the ruling camp has used to disqualify political leaders, among them the Organic Law of the Comptroller General's Office, the Law on Political Parties, the Law on Public Demonstrations and Meetings, the Simón Bolívar Law, and the Law against Organized Crime and the Financing of Terrorism.
In parallel, according to information published by the portal Bitácora Económica, the new Judicial Nominations Committee of the National Assembly was formally sworn in and installed. This joint body is made up of eleven lawmakers and twelve representatives of civil society, unanimously selected to lead the process of electing thirty-two principal and thirty-two alternate justices of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice.
As part of the agreements reached in the negotiations, the delegations committed to create an ombudsman office for political guarantees and citizens' rights. They also appointed a parity commission made up of three members from each side to travel to London and meet with British authorities to seek the return of Venezuelan gold held at the Bank of England, as El Pitazo and Bitácora Económica reported.
