Delcy Rodríguez and Luis Abinader meet in Rome

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez held a meeting on Monday in Rome with her Dominican Republic counterpart, Luis Abinader, according to the portal AlbertoNews, on the sidelines of the World Food Forum of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The bilateral meeting took place during the activities of the international gathering that brings together heads of state, government representatives and multilateral organizations in the Italian capital to discuss food security and the transformation of global agrifood systems.

This high-level rapprochement follows an agreement by the two countries to move toward the gradual normalization of their diplomatic and political relations. Previously, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia spoke with Dominican Minister Víctor "Ito" Bisonó in the city of Santiago, a dialogue framed within the multilateral discussions of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

The reestablishment of institutional channels responds to the directive to consolidate regional integration between two nations that share historical ties of cooperation, in a process that seeks to rebuild the bilateral agenda after a previous period of estrangement.
