Democrats call for special prosecutor to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein

Democratic lawmakers on Monday called for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the ties between U.S. President Donald Trump and the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, eight days before the midterm elections, according to Yahoo Lifestyle.

Members of the House Judiciary Committee revived allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct against the president, who maintained a close relationship with Epstein in the past. Epstein was found dead in his cell in New York in 2019, in an event classified as suicide while he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges.

Following pressure from Congress to release case files, the president's name appears repeatedly in the documents, although his administration has denied any involvement in the crimes. Representative Jamie Raskin accused the Department of Justice of covering up information to protect the president, and noted that several women have made direct accusations against Trump.

In light of this situation, the Democratic caucus asked Attorney General Todd Blanche to appoint an independent prosecutor, although they acknowledged the low likelihood that the measure will succeed given the prosecutor's history of close professional ties with the president.

For its part, the White House dismissed the allegations in a statement issued by its communications director, Steven Cheung, who described the request as a Democratic electoral strategy to spread accusations before the vote.
