Jorge Jaller named Colombia's new ambassador to Venezuela

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has signed the decree appointing Jorge Alberto Jaller Jaramillo as Colombia's new extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the Government of Venezuela, Infobae reported on October 23, 2026. The measure, made official through Decree 1596, confirms the appointment first announced in July at the Independence Day commemoration in Antioquia.

Diplomatic representation between the two countries carries strategic weight given the 2,219 kilometers of shared land border and the need to keep official channels of dialogue open. The post's duties include representing Colombian interests, providing consular assistance and strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, migration, security and border integration.

The new ambassador is a lawyer from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, with a specialization in labor law and a master's degree in business administration. His professional career includes some twenty-six years in the business sector, where he worked at Grupo Éxito and rose to become vice president of Retail, in addition to founding Glovanze, a consultancy focused on commercial expansion in the Latin American market.

Before the decree was formalized, Jaller had already taken part in diplomatic and commercial activities, such as the Gran Encuentro de la Frontera held in Cúcuta and a congress of the Asociación Nacional de Empresarios de Colombia (Andi) in Cartagena. On those occasions, the diplomat proposed moving toward a binational platform and a joint free trade zone aimed at a market of 83 million people, according to the outlet.
