Diosdado Cabello dismisses María Corina Machado's return as a show

The minister of Interior and Justice and secretary general of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, called the return of opposition leader María Corina Machado to Venezuela a show, according to AlbertoNews. During a press conference, the ruling-party official said that those who wish to return to the country may do so, although he said they must take responsibility for their previous actions in the street.

For its part, the Venezuelan opposition celebrated Machado's return, announced for Sunday, October 25, highlighting the event as a relevant step for national politics, according to Runrunes. The move by the opposition leadership revives the debate over the conditions for political figures to return to Venezuelan territory and the opening of spaces for participation.

Cabello downplayed the timing of the return and drew on a historical quotation from Simón Bolívar addressed to Antonio José de Sucre in 1823 to diminish its weight, indicating that opposition political figures do not pose a threat to the ruling structure.

The minister's statements come amid recurring political tensions over opposition participation and guarantees for the mobility of its leaders, a central factor in discussions about the country's institutional dynamics.
