Trump calls arrival of Venezuelan crude in U.S. historic

U.S. President Donald Trump said on October 27, 2026 that the bilateral relationship with Venezuela has improved significantly and called the arrival of Venezuelan crude the greatest oil victory in history, according to the outlet AlbertoNews. At a rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, the president highlighted the participation of major energy companies in oil investments and said the resources are driving job creation.

The arrival of these cargoes follows the agreement announced in August, which grants the company Nabep rights for a century to drill 17 oil fields holding some 65 billion barrels of crude, equivalent to about one-fifth of Venezuela's reserves, according to information published by El Nacional. This volume of reserves represents a central axis in the dynamics of hydrocarbon exploitation in the region.

On the macroeconomic front, the context of oil activity intersects with estimates of gross domestic product performance. According to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Venezuelan economy registered real GDP growth of 4.0% in 2023 and 5.3% in 2024, followed by a slowdown to 1.5% in 2025. For subsequent years, IMF projections put real GDP growth at 4.0% for 2026 and 6.0% for 2027, figures that correspond to estimates and not observed data.

During his remarks, the U.S. president also referred to the volume of hydrocarbons entering his country and joked about the possibility of Venezuela becoming a state of the American union. The resumption of oil shipments marks a turn in bilateral energy policy and opens a new scenario for crude exploitation on the continent.
