Trump renews his bid for the Nobel Peace Prize

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he should be the winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, according to the newspaper Clarín, arguing that he had prevented international conflicts.

In his statement, the U.S. president claimed that he resolved eight conflicts and prevented the total destruction of the world, adding that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. Trump is among the two hundred eighty-seven candidates nominated for the award, which is presented in Oslo.

The president's obsession with international recognition intersects with recent precedents in his relations with figures in the region. Last year, the prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who later ended up giving her gold medal to Trump amid pressure from the White House, which forced the Nobel Institute to publicly clarify that the award still belonged to the Venezuelan leader.

Frustration over not having obtained the recognition also led to geopolitical tensions with other European governments. According to information published by the outlet, Trump sent a message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre warning that he no longer felt obliged to think only about peace, and questioning Denmark's sovereignty over the territory of Greenland.
