US sees political progress in Venezuela

The US government expressed its support for the conclusion of the third round of political negotiations in Venezuela, according to Finanzas Digital on Thursday, October 23. The process, driven by local actors, seeks to strengthen democratic institutions and lay the groundwork for organizing competitive elections.

On the financial front, the US Treasury Department removed Venezuela from the list of countries subject to restrictions on certain US investments abroad, considering that the current administration does not meet the criteria for applying these measures, according to a report from El Pitazo on October 22.

Additionally, El Nacional reported on October 22 that Venezuela is evaluating a bridge loan with Qatar to meet international financial commitments with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), an operation aimed at supporting the recovery of essential services such as the electricity system.

In other news, the nongovernmental organization Foro Penal warned of the persistence of structural challenges in the administration of justice, noting in a report published by Crónica Uno that judicial officials continue to operate under strong political pressure, despite announcements of prisoner releases and ongoing dialogue tables.
