The price of an egg carton rose more than 86% in bolívares between July and September, according to the outlet Crónica Uno. The change reflects the sustained impact of inflation on basic-basket products in the country.
The same outlet reported that the price of the 24-unit product rose more than 51% in dollars over a two-month period. Consumers and merchants consulted by the publication attribute this rebound to distribution costs and distortions in the exchange market.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) set the official exchange rate at 855.66 bolívares to the dollar and 972.65 bolívares to the euro, valid for September 25, 2026. This official rate coexists with a parallel market that adds pressure to merchants' replacement costs.
Separately, an independent report published by El Nacional indicated that August inflation stood at 6.99% in bolívares and 0.77% in dollars, according to data from Cedice Libertad. The same report noted that Maracaibo had the most expensive basket in the country, at 980.32 dollars, with a year-on-year increase higher than that of the other cities assessed by the organization.
