Contraband directly affects the activity of 6 in 10 industrial firms, according to a report by the newspaper Clarín on 2026-09-07. Several manufacturing sectors warn that unfair competition is eroding their sales and profitability in the face of the irregular entry of products.
The problem spans a wide range of productive sectors. From metals and textiles to toys, furniture and sporting goods, companies face distortions in the domestic market due to the sale of merchandise that enters outside regular customs and tax controls.
A report by the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA), cited by Clarín, details which sectors are most exposed to this situation and compiles the formal complaints filed with the government demanding stricter controls at the borders and in sales channels.
The pressure of unfair competition is eroding the margins of local factories, which operate under formal structures of costs, tax payments and registered employment, and are at a disadvantage compared with the informal commercial circuit.
