Venezuela's pet market generates up to $300 million a year

Venezuela's pet market generates up to $300 million a year, according to Banca y Negocios, which reported the figure on October 16, 2026. The number reflects the expansion of a sector focused on food, health and specialized services for companion animals.

Economist Asdrúbal Oliveros estimated that the long-term potential of this market approaches $2 billion. According to the specialist, the growth of the sector depends directly on the recovery of purchasing power and on companies' ability to reach a larger number of households.

This commercial dynamism is unfolding amid a sharp economic contraction and inflationary pressure. According to data published by El Nacional and Cedice, cumulative inflation in Venezuela reached 242.87% between January and September, while projections place the year-end figure between 370% and 540% in bolívares.

For Venezuelan households, caring for companion animals represents a growing expense amid the erosion of wages. While the segments with greater purchasing power are driving the supply of premium services, the vast majority of families struggle to cover basic needs.

Going forward, it will be necessary to watch whether the recovery projected by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for real GDP, which envisions growth of 4.0% in 2026 and 6.0% in 2027, translates into an effective improvement in the population's purchasing power.
