Venezuela's pharmaceutical market grows 12.35% between January and August

Venezuela's pharmaceutical market reached a cumulative distribution of 285.92 million units during the first eight months of 2026, an increase of 12.35% compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), citing the Faro Farmacéutico report from Grupo LETI.

This total volume amounted to 31.43 million additional units placed in the country's commercial circuit compared with the 254.49 million recorded between January and August 2025. The pharmaceutical sector has thus consolidated a sustained expansionary trajectory since 2022, when distribution stood at 133.58 million units, passing through 145.57 million in 2023 and 210.97 million in 2024.

Cumulative growth was driven by two distinct channels, according to data released by AVN. On the one hand, local manufacturing contributed 13.90 million additional units, equivalent to 44.23% of the total increase in the market. On the other hand, corporations and imported medicines accounted for the remaining 17.53 million units, representing 55.77% of the expansion recorded in the period.

This increase in the physical availability of medicines helps mitigate shortages in the country's pharmacy network and facilitates access to essential treatments for acute and chronic conditions. Nevertheless, the market's performance is unfolding in a complex economic environment marked by sharp swings in purchasing power and domestic inflationary pressures.
