La Guaira port operating at 96% three months after earthquakes

The port of La Guaira is operating at 96% of its capacity three months after the double earthquake that hit the region on June 24, according to Minister Garcés, in data published by the newspaper Descifrado on September 24.

Port infrastructure is the main entry point for goods and supplies to the central part of the country, so its recovery is key to supply and to the commercial revival of the central region after the damage caused by the seismic event.

At the same time, human rights organizations such as Amnesty International have pointed to delays in assistance and a lack of transparency in aid to families affected by the earthquakes, according to reports published by the outlet Runrunes.

Despite the progress reported at the maritime terminals, affected communities continue to demand faster humanitarian aid and faster plans for rebuilding homes.
