Latino voters drift away from Republicans as prices rise

Support among Latino voters for Republicans is falling, a shift that could tip the balance in next month's midterm elections in the United States, CNN reported on October 20, 2026.

Widespread price increases for basics such as gasoline, food and health insurance are generating deep discontent among voters in this group. According to data published by CNN, a recent NBC News/Telemundo poll shows that Latino voters prefer Democrats to regain control of Congress by a margin of 24 points, with 59% against 35% for Republicans.

This electoral shift contrasts with the pattern seen in the 2024 elections. At that time, Latino voters leaned markedly toward Donald Trump, who won 46% of their support against 51% for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, according to data compiled by the network.

In the current economic climate, support for the government's performance has fallen sharply. The same poll shows that only 27% of Latino voters approve of Trump's overall performance, and 20% approve of his handling of the cost of living, which feeds uncertainty ahead of the November 3 election.
