Elon Musk pledges to give a SpaceX share to every American child
SpaceX founder and majority shareholder Elon Musk announced his intention to give a share of the technology and aerospace conglomerate to every minor in the United States in 2027, according to Yahoo News.

SpaceX founder and majority shareholder Elon Musk announced his intention to give a share of the technology and aerospace conglomerate to every minor in the United States in 2027, according to Yahoo News. The businessman specified on his social network that this commitment will be the first of several.
The move raises doubts about its real scope and economic feasibility. According to U.S. Census data cited by Yahoo News, the country has about 72 million people under the age of 18. Fulfilling the promise of giving a share to each of them would mean parting with shares worth roughly $10.512 billion in total, based on the company's closing share price of $146.03 at the end of the weekly session.
This figure contrasts with the company's recent financial results. SpaceX posted net losses of $5.488 billion in the first six months of 2026, an increase of 257% from the $1.536 billion in red ink recorded in the first half of 2025, even though it halved its losses in the second quarter to $541 million and raised its semiannual revenue to $12.508 billion.
For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump thanked Musk for the initiative and said on social media that the shares will be channeled through the so-called 'Trump Accounts'. This federal savings and investment program, launched in July, provides an initial $1,000 deposit from the Treasury for babies born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, and also allows voluntary annual contributions of up to $5,000.
However, there is a contradiction in how the announcement would be implemented. Since Musk never referred to any connection between his promise and the government accounts, and since children born before 2025 are excluded from the program's initial state deposit, it remains to be clarified which specific group of children will actually receive the magnate's donation of shares.
