Students in Rio de Janeiro protest against the far right

Thousands of students took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, October 7, to protest against the far right linked to the Bolsonaro family, according to La Izquierda Diario.

The student mobilization focused its demands on opposing the labor system that imposes six days of work for every one day of rest, known as the 6x1 scheme. The protests seek to highlight the precarious conditions that young people face in Brazil's labor market.

The youth discontent comes amid growing political tension in the South American country, where social and union groups are debating the need to transform organizing and struggle in places of study and work.

The day of mobilization also reflected opposition to the influence of international actors and to economic policies that make the living conditions of the working class more precarious.
