Government to add 1,300 megawatts to electricity system in 2026
The Ministry of Electric Energy expects to add 1,300 megawatts to the National Electric System during the last quarter of 2026, according to a report by Bitácora Económica.

The Ministry of Electric Energy expects to add 1,300 megawatts to the National Electric System during the last quarter of 2026, according to a report by Bitácora Económica dated September 30, 2026. The measure seeks to stabilize service and ensure supply to households, businesses and industries across the country.
The minister outlined that Planta Centro, located in Carabobo state, will contribute 600 megawatts once its sixth unit is brought online. The move aims to bring stability to the central-western region, reducing load shedding and redistributing power to the states of Falcón, Lara and Zulia, and to the Andean Region.
In addition to this complex, the plan includes adding seven units in Zulia state that will together exceed 500 megawatts of capacity. The rest of the quarterly target will be met by activating strategic regional plants, including Planta Coro in Falcón, Planta Guanta in Anzoátegui and Planta Rafael Urdaneta.
The injection of power is intended to mitigate the constant outages affecting commercial and productive activity in the regions. Unexpected cuts force businesses to rely on backup electric generators, which raises operating costs and makes the distribution of basic goods more expensive.
