India to unload 13.6 million barrels of Venezuelan oil in October

India expects to unload 13.6 million barrels of Venezuelan oil during October, including volumes currently in transit, according to a report published October 21, 2026, by the portal Banca y Negocios. The figure represents an increase over previous records for the same trade route.

According to data from the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) published by S&P Global Energy and reported by the outlet, Indian ports unloaded 10.2 million barrels of crude from Venezuela in May of this year. So far in 2026, arrivals of this hydrocarbon have averaged 190,000 barrels per day, with 80% of deliveries concentrated at the port of Sikka.

Benjamin Tang, head of liquid bulk at CAS, told Banca y Negocios that Reliance Industries Limited is the largest buyer of this crude. The specialist said the company will remain essential to efforts to expand commercial ties between the two countries, given the technical configuration of its refineries, which are specialized in processing heavy crudes.

Separately, sources consulted by the newspaper El Pitazo said that exploitation of new oil fields negotiated with interested companies could begin in January 2027, in a context in which the government plans large investments in the energy sector over the next five years.
