Italy urges release of political prisoners in meeting with Venezuelan foreign minister

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia in New York on Thursday, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to the portal AlbertoNews. During the meeting, the Italian official handed over a list of political detainees from his country and requested their immediate release.

The meeting addressed the new phase of bilateral relations and opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector, with particular attention to the participation of Italian companies such as ENI, which maintains operations and investments in the South American country. According to the outlet, Tajani welcomed the statements by acting President Delcy Rodríguez on the calling of free elections.
