Paraguay's economy expanded 5.7% over the first eight months of 2026, according to Diario Paraguayo, citing the Imaep Monthly Economic Activity Indicator published by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP).
In August, the indicator recorded a year-on-year expansion of 6.7%. The result reflects a recovery driven mainly by the strength of the secondary and services sectors, which offset the temporary contraction of some primary-sector activities.
The secondary sector stood out with a year-on-year increase of 12.2%, bringing its cumulative growth this year to 5.9%. The boost came from higher electricity generation and progress in public and private construction projects, as well as an 8.2% increase in manufacturing.
The services sector, for its part, posted a year-on-year increase of 4.5%, with cumulative expansion of 4.9% through August, thanks to commercial activity and financial intermediation services. By contrast, the primary sector recorded a year-on-year decline of 2.7% due to smaller harvests in the agricultural season, although it maintains a positive cumulative gain of 8.5% for the year.
