U.S. Embassy in Caracas expands consular services

Diplomatic staff at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas are now working from its headquarters in the Venezuelan capital and will continue to expand consular services, according to Banca y Negocios, which reported on October 24, 2026.

The resumption of diplomatic activities aims to ensure assistance for U.S. citizens and normalize consular procedures in the country. Rehabilitation work on the diplomatic building began in March of this year, a process that included the return of the Marine Security Detachment to guard the premises.

On the energy front, the reopening of the diplomatic mission is taking place alongside bilateral agreements on oil. According to Bitácora Económica, negotiations between the two countries contemplate access to 65 billion barrels of crude from national reserves. Meanwhile, El Nacional reported that the sector expects investments of $76 billion over the next five years for the development of hydrocarbon projects.

In Venezuela's macroeconomic framework, the International Monetary Fund reported real gross domestic product growth of 4.0% in 2023, 5.3% in 2024 and 1.5% in 2025. For the following years, the multilateral agency projects GDP expansion of 4.0% in 2026 and 6.0% in 2027, noting that these last two figures are estimates and not confirmed data.

The progress of the consular presence and the implementation of the agreed plans will determine the pace of the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
