Brazil's beef exports fall 23% in August after weaker demand from China
Brazilian beef exports suffered a significant decline in the eighth month of the year, reaching 225,000 tons, a 23% drop from the same month last year, according to the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.

Brazilian beef exports suffered a significant decline in the eighth month of the year, reaching 225,000 tons, a 23% drop from the same month last year, according to the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. The cattle sector thus faces a considerable slowdown after previous months of high trade activity with Asian markets.
The monthly drop is even steeper when compared with the record reached in June of this year, when foreign sales hit 317,000 tons, driven by front-loaded purchases. Measured against that exceptional volume, the cumulative contraction reaches 29%, according to data released by Folha de S.Paulo.
This volatility in traded volumes shows the high sensitivity of Brazil's agricultural export sector to swings in its main buying partners, a determining factor for the income of local producers and for the country's trade balance. Reliance on a few large buyers exposes the value chain to abrupt changes in international prices and demand.
