Venezuela's inflation eases to 8.4% in September

Venezuela's monthly inflation rate stood at 8.4% in September, a slight decline from 8.9% in August, according to figures published by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) and reported by El Cooperante on October 5, 2026. The result marks the second consecutive month with a single-digit reading, after July's 19.9%.

The National Consumer Price Index reflects a moderation in price increases, driven according to the official issuer by coordination between the Executive and the monetary authority to stabilize the exchange rate and contain the expansion of monetary aggregates. However, this deceleration has come at a high cost to the state's reserves.

According to information published by Bitácora Económica, economist and former lawmaker José Guerra warned that the strategy aimed at curbing the exchange rate and containing inflation in September consumed 65% of the country's oil revenues, underscoring the financial effort needed to sustain the current exchange rate stability.

On a cumulative basis, price increases reach 225.3%, according to data released by El Nacional. Meanwhile, the education sector led monthly increases with 11.13%, followed by clothing and footwear with 8.93%, and recreation and culture with 8.70%.
