Dragon field play: Venezuela activates 4.2 trillion cubic feet of gas

Venezuela has delivered a geopolitical blow in the Caribbean with the advance of the mega-project Dragon Field, a giant offshore deposit that holds estimated reserves of more than 4.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas (TCF).
The operating alliance between state-owned PDVSA, the multinational Shell and the government of Trinidad and Tobago (backed by strategic licenses issued by the U.S. OFAC) seeks to completely reconfigure the energy and economic map of the region.
To shield this multibillion-dollar plan, the Venezuelan government has deployed a strict protocol of border security, customs inspection and maritime patrols to guarantee sovereignty over its territorial waters.
Beyond the political chessboard, the commercialization of this resource promises to attract international investment exceeding $1 billion, turning the country's gas potential into a direct injection of foreign currency for national infrastructure and social investment.
