Following the new political phase after Nicolás Maduro left power in January, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Barham Salih, expressed hope that the transition would create security conditions for the voluntary return of citizens abroad.
The official warned that the return represents an initial stage and that measures are still needed to guarantee the reintegration of those who left the country. According to the outlet, Salih met in Caracas with acting president Delcy Rodríguez to discuss the reintegration of the displaced population and joint cooperation.
On the domestic macroeconomic front, the context presents considerable challenges for household stability. According to data published by El Nacional, cumulative inflation stands at 225.3%, while the recent monthly change stands at 8.4%.
Separately, the High Commissioner's visit included a tour of La Guaira, a state hit by a double earthquake, where he warned of damage to infrastructure and the need to coordinate assistance to overcome the tragedy.
