Urban poverty in Argentina rose to 32.3% in September 2026, according to DW Español via its Instagram account. This rate is the highest recorded since 2024, an increase of 4.1 percentage points compared with the second half of 2025.
According to the same report, the indigence rate stood at 7.5%, 1.2 percentage points above the previous half-year. In all, some 15 million people live in poverty in the South American country, a situation that coincides with a decline in the popularity of President Javier Milei.
The social crisis is also hitting the country's interior regions. According to reports by El Cronista, there are cities where poverty exceeds 40%, while only one falls below 20%, reflecting a deep territorial disparity in the distribution of income.
For its part, the state-run channel Telesur said this socioeconomic deterioration keeps the population under strong pressure, in a context where discontent and unemployment remain among citizens' main concerns.
