The presidents of Brazil (Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva), Mexico (Claudia Sheinbaum) and Venezuela (Delcy Rodríguez) will not take part in the Ibero-American summit taking place this Wednesday and Thursday in Madrid.
The summit, organized together with the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), will be attended by 10 of the community's 22 leaders, while the three countries absent at the presidential level will be represented by their respective foreign ministers.
Such gatherings seek to coordinate multilateral agendas on cooperation, trade and regional development, although the absence of the two largest economies in Latin America limits the reach of high-level political agreements.
Among the expected outcomes of the event, the Spanish government highlighted the creation of an Ibero-American network for disaster risk reduction and civil protection, a push on artificial intelligence and the adoption of a new cooperation strategy.
