Mastercard signs three-year deal to sponsor the LVBP

Mastercard signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP) to add its brand to the name of the league and boost digital payments in the country, according to Bloomberg Línea.

The deal, presented by Claudia Acosta, Mastercard's country manager in Venezuela, together with Giuseppe Palmisano, president of the LVBP, and Miguel López, the league's marketing manager, provides that the competition will be renamed Mastercard LVBP.

The alliance marks the first time the payments company has sponsored professional baseball in Venezuela, in a strategy aimed at bringing its international partnership with sports and entertainment to the local market, according to the outlet.

The agreement comes as the country's financial institutions expand the features of their payment methods, as happened in December 2024 when Banco Mercantil's Maestro cards migrated to contactless Mastercard debit.
