Naturgas calls for reopening gas pipeline with Venezuela amid energy crisis

The Colombian Natural Gas Association (Naturgas) called on October 1, 2026, for the repair and reopening, as soon as possible, of the gas pipeline connecting Venezuela and Colombia, according to the outlet AlbertoNews.

The binational Antonio Ricaurte pipeline has been inactive for several years and requires infrastructure work before it can resume operations, as well as a license from the U.S. Department of the Treasury due to the sanctions imposed on Venezuela.

According to information published by the outlet Descifrado, reactivating this infrastructure would require an estimated investment of 66 million units.

Naturgas President Luz Stella Murgas said the system is needed to help address the natural gas shortfall currently affecting Colombia and putting the operations of several industries at risk.
