Doral businesses suffer sales drop of up to 70% amid immigration operation

Federal immigration operations in the city of Doral, in South Florida, have had a severe impact on the local economy and on the finances of small businesses. Operations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have frightened residents and workers, sharply reducing the flow of customers in the area.

The loss of workers has become one of the main problems for businesses in this community, which has a high concentration of Venezuelan residents. Several businesses lost a significant share of their staff because of fear of detentions, forcing them to cut operations even though the workers had pending asylum applications.

On the financial side, the drop in buyers has directly affected the revenue of these businesses. According to a report by AlbertoNews, businesses such as Pipo Burgers recorded sales declines of up to 70%, reflecting a contraction in consumption in the urban area affected by the immigration measures.

Responding to business owners' demands that municipal authorities intervene, Mayor Christi Fraga acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and explained that the local administration lacks the legal authority to prevent federal agents from acting within the city's limits.

The economic pressure created by the detentions and the resulting loss of household income has led community organizations to consider assistance mechanisms for affected families, while businesses try to keep operating amid a climate of uncertainty.
