Traffic restricted between Anzoátegui and Monagas for electrical works

The Corporación Eléctrica Nacional (CORPOELEC) will carry out on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the transfer of a power autotransformer to the El Furrial substation in Monagas state, according to the Venezuelan News Agency and the newspaper Contrapunto. For this reason, authorities will activate a road safety protocol with partial and temporary closures on the national highway linking this entity with Anzoátegui state, specifically from a particular section of the road until the route is completed.

A power autotransformer is a critical piece of equipment for large-scale energy transmission, responsible for adjusting voltage levels so that electricity travels efficiently across the national grid. Moving structures of this size requires special escorts and traffic restrictions to prevent accidents and protect the road infrastructure itself. The El Furrial substation, the equipment's destination, is a key node for electricity distribution in eastern Venezuela.

This kind of maintenance and infrastructure investment comes at a time when the overall cost of electricity service is squeezing the finances of the productive sector. According to a report published by the newspaper Infobae, the weight of the electricity tariff in general costs rose by about 150% in the most recent period, while the weight of commercial premises rents rose 138%. These changes reflect how basic services have become a decisive factor for the profitability of economic activities.

For users and drivers on the Anzoátegui-Monagas route, the technical operation will mean temporary delays during the day. Authorities have urged the public to plan ahead and to follow the instructions of the escort personnel to ensure road safety along the journey. For businesses, the stability of the electricity supply in the eastern region is vital to avoid interruptions in the cold chain and in local manufacturing processes.

In the coming weeks, it will be necessary to assess the impact of adding this autotransformer on the stability of the regional electricity system. Commercial and productive guilds in the area will keep a close watch on whether this technical improvement translates into a reduction in the power outages that affect daily commercial activity.
