Venezuela's education minister, Héctor Rodríguez, said students from 91 schools affected by the double earthquake of June 24, 2026, will be relocated for the next school term, according to the outlet TalCual.
According to the information released, 11 of those 91 schools suffered structural collapse, while the rest sustained various kinds of material damage. The contingency affected some 900 of the 27,000 schools that make up the national education system, although most of the reported damage was minor.
The official plan calls for each student at the affected schools to be relocated to the institution closest to their home area starting September 14, the date set for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The measure aims to guarantee the continuity of academic activities despite the temporary loss of infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the report indicated that 12 of the 67 temporary shelters initially set up in schools have already been vacated. This step is part of a government scheme to move displaced people into single-family camps or provide them with a permanent housing solution.
