Russia sends first diesel tanker to US

Russia will dispatch on Thursday the first oil tanker loaded with diesel bound for the United States, under a bilateral supply agreement between the two countries. The shipment marks the start of a series of scheduled deliveries meant to meet US energy demand.

Diesel is a key input for freight transport, agricultural machinery and industrial activity. The shipments follow a partial easing of the fuel export restrictions that Moscow had maintained, a decision aimed at meeting the volumes agreed in bilateral talks.

According to data published by Banca y Negocios, the announcement of the deal triggered an immediate reaction in international markets, where prices fell 6%. The same report projects that exports could reach 3.5 million tons of diesel by year-end, a volume equal to more than 10% of the global market.

The arrival of these cargoes aims to stabilize supply in the US market for petroleum products. Going forward, attention will focus on the pace at which vessels leave Baltic ports and on the consolidation of the financial arrangements needed to keep trade flowing.
