Venezuela's telecom sector eyes boom in 2027, UCAB says
Venezuela's telecommunications sector is set to grow significantly in 2027.

Venezuela's telecommunications sector will experience significant growth in 2027, according to the portal Banca y Negocios, which reported on October 28, 2026. The estimate was made by Javier Hernández, director of the School of Telecommunications Engineering at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), who said the expansion will cover fixed and mobile telephony, data networks, internet access and satellite communications.
Telecommunications platforms constitute the digital infrastructure that supports banking operations, commerce and industrial activity. For services to expand their coverage and capacity, networks require high-speed data transport systems (such as fiber optics) and a continuous power supply that prevents interruptions to digital traffic.
This sector projection is consistent with estimates on the performance of the Venezuelan economy. According to data from the International Monetary Fund, the country's real gross domestic product grew 4.0% in 2023, 5.3% in 2024 and 1.5% in 2025. For the following years, the agency projects growth of 4.0% in 2026 and 6.0% in 2027, though these last two figures are estimates subject to revision.
However, Hernández warned of the critical need to restore the National Electric Service to ensure operational stability. Continuous power fluctuations and outages cause physical damage to technology platforms and loss of information. Likewise, before moving toward the massive deployment of 5G technology, service providers will need to secure LTE and 4G coverage in the main cities.
