Venezuela is consolidating its strategy of international projection in the tourism sector after taking part in specialized trade fairs in Italy, according to the Ministry of the People's Power for Foreign Affairs (Mppre). During diplomatic meetings held on Italian soil, national authorities presented the formal proposal for the country to be designated as host country at the 30th edition of the Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo (BMT), which will take place in Naples from March 3 to 5, 2027.

The agenda included meetings led by Venezuela's consul general in Naples, Javier Gómez, together with Tourism Minister Daniella Cabello, and the organizer of the BMT, Fabrizio Cantella. As part of preparations to receive international operators, the official delegation has pushed for adjustments to airport infrastructure following the recent back-to-back earthquakes in the country, seeking to ensure optimal operating conditions for future connectivity.

Alongside its work with the Italian organizing committee, the diplomatic mission secured a memorandum of understanding with the airline ITA Airways. The agreement, signed by Venezuela's ambassador to Italy, María Elena Uzzo, and First Vice Minister Oliver Blanco, will allow a direct connection between the two countries to be restored and secured, with three weekly flights starting March 30, 2027.

Efforts in Italy also aim to boost so-called heritage tourism, drawing on the historical and cultural ties between southern Italy and Venezuela, a line of work that complements a prior twinning agreement between the Port of Naples and Venezuela's Ministry of Tourism. To bring in visitors, the authorities agreed to organize familiarization trips for Italian operators and media.
