Venezuela and Colombia add new air route between Maracaibo, Riohacha and Cali

Venezuela and Colombia expanded their bilateral air connectivity with the launch of a new route operated by the airline Aeroregional, which will link the cities of Maracaibo, Riohacha and Cali, according to the portal AlbertoNews, on September 28, 2026.

The project was confirmed during the first Vitrina Turística Maracaibo 2026, a forum for commercial and academic exchange. The operation calls for three weekly frequencies, while aviation authorities fine-tune the final schedules and evaluate possible connections to Caribbean destinations such as Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao.

In parallel, according to the same publication, an investment of 50 billion Colombian pesos was announced for the construction of a new international terminal at the Riohacha airport. The works are scheduled for delivery in April 2027 to expand the operating capacity of the infrastructure.

This air transport network seeks to capitalize on the region's tourist attractions, such as Lake Maracaibo and Cabo de la Vela, and to boost commercial activity between Zulia state and the department of La Guajira.
